Former NY City Council Speaker Adams Selected As Governor Hochul’s Running Mate. Sharpton Responds

By NAN Photos: Facebook NEW YORK, NY (February 4, 2026) — Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), issued the following statement on New York State Gov. Hochul’s selection of former City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams to serve as her Lieutenant Governor.  “Governor Hochul made a strong decision — and a statement — with the selection of Adrienne Adams to serve as her running mate. Adrienne has been a longtime member of National Action Network, who has fought alongside us in every position she’s held — especially as Speaker of the City Council these last four years. I know as Lieutenant Governor, she and Governor Hochul will continue to work with NAN to drive down costs for Black New Yorkers, stand up to an oppressive federal government that’s cut our healthcare access, and expand opportunities. We are excited to welcome her to our interim House of Justice location this Saturday to address her fellow NAN members.” NAN will indeed welcome the Lieutenant Governor nominee this Saturday to its interim Harlem location on Saturday, February 7th. Throughout Black History Month, NAN will hold its Saturday Action Rallies at the historic Mother AME Zion Church, located at 140 W 137th Street between 7th and Lenox Avenues, until it moves into its permanent location this March. Known as the Freedom Church, it was pivotal to the abolitionist movement and became a Grand Depot for the Underground Railroad. Among notable congregants for the church were Frederick Douglass, singer Paul Robeson, and Madam C.J. Walker, the nation’s first Black millionaire whose funeral was held at the church.     For more information go to www.nationalactionnetwork.net.
