House Votes to Limit Trump’s War Powers on Iran

(AURN News) — The House of Representatives passed a resolution Wednesday that would restrict President Trump’s ability to wage war against Iran without additional congressional approval.

Now, the vote was 215-208, marking the first passage of a measure since fighting began more than three months ago.

Four Republicans joined all Democrats in supporting the measure: Rep. Tom Barrett, R-Mich., Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., and Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky.

The resolution signals growing Republican frustration with a conflict that has dragged past the constitutional 90-day limit for presidential military action without legislative authorization.

Constituents worried about the economic fallout from the war appear to be pushing some GOP lawmakers to break with the administration.

However, the battle isn’t over.

The Senate would still need to approve an identical resolution.

Legal scholars also disagree on whether the measure would actually bind the president to comply.
