International News: 82,000 Argentina fans sign petition calling for World Cup Final replay over referee controversy

By Zoila Palma:  More than 82,000 Argentina supporters have signed an online petition calling for the FIFA World Cup Final to be replayed, alleging that controversial officiating influenced the team’s 1-0 defeat to Spain.

The petition, launched on Change.org, claims the match was affected by what supporters described as “corrupt” refereeing and calls on FIFA to review the decisions made during the final.

Spain secured the title with Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal in the 106th minute of extra time. Argentina struggled to create clear chances, failing to register a shot on target during regulation time, while goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez was kept busy by Spain’s sustained pressure.

Argentina was also reduced to 10 players after Enzo Fernández was sent off in the 93rd minute following two yellow cards.

The defeat was followed by heated scenes involving players from both teams.

Leandro Paredes was seen confronting Eric Garcia and Gavi, while Nahuel Molina was also involved in the altercation.

The match referee, Slovenia’s Slavko Vincic, reportedly awarded 46 fouls, with 25 committed by Argentina players.
