The Brixton BID has teamed up with local youth centre Marcus Lipton Centre and Rae Academy to support a community clean up across Brixton.
This will take the form of a “coordinated day of action bringing together young people, residents, local businesses, community organisations, and partners to improve the local environment across Brixton and nearby estates.”
They told Brixton Buzz:
The initiative is deliberately positive and practical. It is about local people visibly taking responsibility for the places they live, work, and socialise, strengthening pride in Brixton and reinforcing shared expectations around care, behaviour, and partnership with the council.
The clean-up will take place simultaneously across Central Brixton, Moorlands Estate, Loughborough Junction, and Angel Town, with each area focusing on its own local patch. Local Community Champions will coordinate volunteers, equipment, and briefings so teams can work safely and efficiently for around 1–1.5 hours.
The effort is youth-led by design, with young people involved in planning, promotion, delivery, and follow-up. The lead youth group is Young People’s Movement supported by Action on ASB! and Brixton BID.
The day will conclude with a shared celebration in central Brixton, bringing everyone together to recognise collective effort, amplify positive messages, and reinforce pride in place.
The message is simple: Brixton is our home, and looking after it is something we do together.
