After a decade in the second-tier division, Mbale City based Kataka Football Club has been promoted to the Star-Times Uganda Premier League.
Kataka confirmed their latest status after a 2-0 victory on the road away to Soltilo Bright Stars at the Coffee stadium in Bugolobi, Kampala on Saturday, 6th June 2026.
A goal in either half from Ali Ssentamu (penalty) and Usama Khayemba secured that Godfrey “Toldo” Awachango’s coached charges booked their berth among the big boys of Uganda’s football.
Coming to this duel, Kataka only needed maximum points in the fixture happening on the final day of the season in the 2025/26 FUFA Big League.
Kataka is the fourth club this season to the elevated to the top tier league after Kigezi Home Boyz, Blacks Power and Ntugasaze.
Blacks Power from Lira City claimed the trophy after picking a point in their goal-less draw away to Onduparaka at the AbaBet GreenLight Stadium in Anyiivu, Arua, West Nile region.
Other results on match day 30:
CATDA won 1-0 away to Kigezi Home Boyz at the Al Madina Stadium in Kabale.
Paidha Black Angels edged Nebbi Central 1-0 at the Luo stadium during the West Nile derby.
Ntugasaze overcame Kiyinda Boys 3-0. James Jarieko scored a brace and Kawanguzi added the other.
At the Mbale City stadium, Mbale Heroes fell 2-6 to visting Iganga United.
Kaaro Karungi edged visiting Bunyaruguru United 1-0.
The crowning ceremony for the champions is expected to be conducted on Sunday, 7th June 2026 in Lira city at 10 AM.
