Liam Jacobs’ shock return to the Democratic Alliance (DA) from the Patriotic Alliance (PA) has left many supporters of the political party run by Gayton McKenzie angry and annoyed.

The 25-year-old announced the switch-up in a surprise Facebook Live on Monday morning.

DA leader and Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has since publicly welcomed Jacobs back.

LIAM JACOBS SHOCK ANNOUNCEMENT: PA MEMBERS SEE RED

In his Facebook Live, Liam Jacobs shared his special, surprising announcement: he had officially left the PA to return to the DA.

As he had done a year ago, the young politician jumped ship in a viral social media stunt.

Last year, Jacobs went live with PA leader Gayton McKenzie and MP Ashley Sauls, claiming he felt at “home” at the green party. He claimed that he had felt sidelined by the blue party and its lack of coloured leaders.

However, all that changed in less than a year.

In the Facebook live, Liam Jacobs ditched his green PA member’s merch to don DA regalia, complete with a “welcome home” party thrown by party leader Geordin Hill-Lewis.

Under the video were comments from angry PA members that read:

“I saw through you from the beginning. You are just as fake as your fade”

“I’m disappointed. You don’t know what you want “

“Pathetic”

“What a joke…just join the EFF”

“I knew he was sent to come spy on our party”

“The white man will remain your boss”

“He was a double agent all along”

WHAT CHANGED?

During the Facebook Live, Liam Jacobs offered little explanation on why he had switched up from the PA to the DA.

He did hint that his vision was clearer, stating: “I can’t wait to see more people come to the DA, so that we can become the largest party in South Africa.  The DA is the only party that is serious about defeating the ANC.

“So if you don’t want an ANC government, and if you do not want to be governed by the friends of the ANC, then you know where your political home is”.

During his year at the PA, Liam Jacobs was moved around from one role to another. This included

Becoming the Tshwane mayoral candidate.

Becoming a Johannesburg councillor.

Linked to replacing Kenny Kunene in Johannesburg’s transport portfolio amid his temporary suspension

Moved back to Cape Town and announced as the PA’s Cape Town mayoral candidate.

Appointed national youth leader of the PA.

PA leader Gayton McKenzie has yet to address Jacobs’s new political stance.

DA LEADER TO LIAM JACOBS: ‘YOU FIGURED OUT YOU MADE A MISTAKE’

On his social media platforms, DA leader Geordin Hill-Lewis welcomed Liam Jacobs back into the party.

He said in a video clip: “Every one of us was in our twenties once, that’s the point of our twenties. You’ve got to learn and grow and figure out who you really are

“Helen Zille was right, you are a talented man, you figured out that you made a mistake. Well done, it’s awesome to have you back”.

Hill-Lewis added that he had received many requests from PA leaders to join the DA.

He added: “We’re happy to talk to you. You know where home is”.
