Man attacks two cops inside Orange Walk Police Station

By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Two police officers were injured after a detainee allegedly turned violent inside the Orange Walk Police Station on Tuesday evening.

Police say a 22 year old Honduran laborer of Santa Martha Road, Orange Walk District, was brought into the station around 6:15pm, detained for multiple traffic offences.

When told he would be placed in a holding cell, he allegedly became aggressive. As two officers escorted him to the cell block, he allegedly threatened to kill them, then began fighting.

At the holding cell, he allegedly gripped the cell frame and refused to go inside, shouting that he would not be locked up.

During the struggle, he allegedly slapped one officer’s hand, breaking his $150 smart watch, and punched him in the right eye. The second officer stepped in, and all three fell over a three foot wall beside the cell.

The man then allegedly ran toward the back door of the station before being subdued by a sergeant.

A doctor certified both officers’ injuries as harm. The man is pending charges for two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of threat of death and damage to property.
