SURREY MLAs Garry Begg and Amna Shah joined students, families and community members at the 5th Annual Vaisakhi Jorh Mela hosted by Khalsa Secondary School on April 25. The event took place across the Khalsa School Old Yale Road and Khalsa Secondary School fields at 10589 124 Street in Surrey.
The Vaisakhi Jorh Mela brought together thousands of attendees to celebrate the spirit of Vaisakhi through cultural displays, student performances, and community engagement activities. This year’s gathering also marked the beginning of Khalsa Schools’ 40‑year milestone celebrations, recognizing their longstanding contribution to education and community life in British Columbia. Khalsa Schools will officially reach their 40th anniversary in September 2026.
Begg and Shah joined school leaders, educators, and families in acknowledging the importance of Vaisakhi as a time of reflection, service, and community unity. Their attendance highlighted the significance of the event to Surrey’s diverse population and the strong relationship between local schools and the broader community.
