Must Be The Money Brings Powerful Conversations on Wealth & Legacy to Inglewood

Last night’s screening for Must Be The Money at The Miracle Theater was a powerful reminder of how important culturally relevant conversations around wealth, ownership, and financial literacy really are.

The new podcast — a collaboration between MarketplaceBBC World Service, For The Culture By The Culture Media, and All The Smoke Productions — aims to demystify wealth-building through honest conversations with athletes, entrepreneurs, and media leaders navigating success, setbacks, and generational wealth. Hosted by Pulitzer Prize finalist Lee Hawkins, the series feels both educational and deeply personal.

One of the evening’s featured conversations centered around Matt Barnes, who appears in Episode 1 alongside his twin sons to discuss NIL deals, generational differences in money management, and the importance of building wealth early.

One of my favorite moments from the night was asking Emmy-winning producer P. Frank Williams which episodes stood out to him most. He immediately said the episodes featuring Angela Yee and Van Lathan really resonated with him because of the honesty and real-life lessons they shared.

Another standout moment came from Marketplace GM Neal Scarbrough, who shared that his favorite episode was with Angelica Nwandu, founder of The Shade Room — highlighting her journey building one of the most influential media platforms in culture today.

A meaningful night for Inglewood and an important conversation for the community.
