Businessman Austin Elindi, who is facing charges in the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) fraud and corruption case, was granted bail in an amount of N$50 000 in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Thursday.
Magistrate Olga Muharukua granted bail to Elindi, represented by defence lawyer Karel Gaeb, after she was informed that the state is no longer opposed to his release on bail.
Elindi’s release comes nearly nine months following his arrest in July 2025, after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) cracked down on an alleged scheme involving bribes and fraudulent fuel deliveries by Namcor.
The state and defence agreed to a set of conditions for the granting of bail to Elindi.
As part of the conditions, Elindi must report at the Anti-Corruption Commission’s head office in Windhoek every Monday and Friday, has to surrender his travel documents to the investigator dealing with his case, may not apply for new travel documents until the case has been concluded, and may not leave the Windhoek district without informing the investigating officer.
He has to appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court again on 21 April.
