No Kings: Vote Early March And Rally Taking Place In Newark NJ Oct.17

A No Kings: Vote Early March And Rally to urge voter participation in the upcoming midterm elections and to protest policies of the Trump administration will take place Saturday, October 17, 2026, 12:00 noon, at the Lincoln Statue, 12 Springfield Avenue, in Newark, New Jersey.

“The purpose of this demonstration is to focus on the importance of this election where we will choose members of Congress and other officeholders. This could be one of the most consequential elections to date,” Lawrence Hamm, Chairman, People’s Organization For Progress stated.

“Not only are we urging people to vote, we are also urging them to vote ahead of Election Day. The period for mail-in voting has already begun. We urge those who can to vote by mail. In some places mail-in ballots are already being counted,” he said.

Hamm said his group is also urging people to vote early. “In-person early voting in this state will take place from October 24th to November 1st. At that time people will be able to cast their ballots at designated polling places,” he said.

“For those who cannot take advantage early voting then we urge them to vote on Election Day, November 3rd. Everyone should make a plan for overcoming any obstacles or challenges that will interfere with or prevent them from getting to the polls and casting their ballot,” he said.

“If we want to change the course of the nation from the disastrous path that the Trump administration has it currently put it on then we must vote. We must break the Trump/MAGA right-wing stranglehold on Congress.

“We must elect a new majority that will stand up to the President and make Congress serve the people, not the  trillionaire and billionaire oligarchs, racists and fascists.

“And we must vote in record numbers. We know Trump and his collaborators will attempt to steal this election. However, if we vote in record numbers we will thwart their efforts,” he said.

Hamm said another purpose of this event is to protest the racist, fascist, and unjust policies at home and abroad of President Trump, his administration, the Republican controlled Congress, and the ultra conservative U.S. Supreme Court.

The march is sponsored by People’s Organization For Progress (POP) and co-sponsored by the Martin Luther King People’s Convention for Justice and Resistance Planning Committee.

The People’s Organization For Progress (POP) is an all volunteer grassroots organization that works for racial, social economic justice and peace.

The Martin Luther King People’s Convention for Justice and Resistance Planning Committee is the coordinating body for a coalition of several hundred organizations that endorsed the MLK march held in Newark earlier this year, and a convention that was held last month.

Speakers at the rally will include community activists, religious leaders, civil rights advocates, students, labor representatives and elected officials.

They will discuss the importance of voting in this upcoming election and their opposition to Trump administration policies.

The demonstration will begin with a press conference at 12 noon followed by a rally at the Lincoln Statue. Following the rally protesters will march to the Rodino Federal Building, 970 Kenneth A. Gibson Blvd (Broad Street) and then back to the Lincoln Statue where there will be a closing rally.
