The incident occurred during a demonstration against an Israeli real estate event at the Park East Synagogue on the Upper East Side, according to a police spokesman. The officer was injured while attempting to hold back protesters who were trying to remove barricades. The encounters with police occurred near the Park East Synagogue on East 67th Street. Nearly 100 anti-Israel protesters, some wearing keffiyehs and waving Palestinian flags, gathered to object to “The Great Israeli Real Estate Event 2026,” which was being held at the synagogue. Protesters barked chants such as “Israel should not exist” and “Stop the sale of stolen land,” while fighting with police who were trying to keep a perimeter. According to the NYPD, water was, allegedly, thrown at officers from a nearby building during the demonstration. Despite the violent clashes and the officer’s hospitalization, there were no reports from the NYPD of immediate arrests made during the three-and-a-half-hour event.
