In If I Go Will They Miss Me, Brooks delivers a quiet yet powerful performance as Lozita, the emotional anchor in a story that blends reality with the surreal. The film follows twelve-year-old Lil Ant, who begins seeing spectral visions of boys in his neighborhood, uncovering a deep, mystical link between his family and their legacy. Speaking about the project, Brooks highlighted the importance of telling stories that explore the complexities of Black fatherhood and domestic life with grace and a touch of the “otherworldly.”

The screening was followed by an intimate Q&A where Brooks discussed her journey from Juilliard to the heights of Hollywood, emphasizing her commitment to “keeping it real” and lifting up the next generation of creators. With her signature warmth and “unfiltered” wisdom, she reminded the audience that the most powerful tool an artist has is their own truth. It was a beautiful moment of full-circle success for the actress, proving once again why she is a definitive voice in modern cinema. For more exclusive festival coverage, keep it locked on SHEENTV
