Patricia D. James Secondary School (PDJSS), in collaboration with the Sir Ira Simmons Secondary School, hosted a career fair on the grounds of PDJSS in Vide Bouteille, Castries, on Thursday, June 11. The programme was organised as part of the Career Preparation and Awareness campaign spearheaded by the two District 2 institutions.

The initiative followed the theme Empowering Skill Development and Adaptability for Lifelong Careers. Although the event mainly targeted secondary school students in Forms Two to Four who are preparing to choose subjects for their CSEC examinations, primary school children also attended, making it a learning opportunity for everyone.

Exhibition booths, such as the one run by St. Lucia Times, provided information about various organisations, career options, and the personal qualities, skills, and qualifications needed for each path. The displays included visual aids, samples, diagrams, interactive media, signage, giveaways and other tools tailored to engage students.

Lianda Aimable, a counsellor at PDJSS, led the event and highlighted its importance for young people.

“It’s an activity we have every year to help our students make informed choices or decisions when it relates to choosing their subjects,” she said. “This activity is really important. It helps our students see various institutions, various organisations, and helps them to make decisions based on the subjects and the career choices.”

The career fair forms part of a broader mandate by the two institutions to prepare students for the world of work.
