There are three important aspects of wine tasting, according to Michael Brooks, co-founder of Bed-Vyne Wine & Spirits, Brooklyn’s premier Black-owned wine shop.
First up? The nose.
As you tip your glass toward your lips for that first sip, pause and take in the aromas, the wine expert advised attendees at the inaugural ‘Black & Brown Winemakers Experience’ on Sept. 18. Hosted by Pop Pairings in collaboration with Bed-Vyne Wine & Spirits, Bring BK Back Day Party, and presented in partnership with The Veraison Project, the evening brought together wine lovers, makers, and industry insiders at a stylish private event space in Williamsburg, an intimate gathering I had the pleasure of attending.
According to Brooks, there’s a method to getting the most out of what’s swirling in your glass.
“There’s three specific areas in the glass you want to put your nose in. The first area you want to sniff from is the inner rim of the glass,” he shared during the VIP brand tasting experience, which gave attendees the chance to slow down, sip and savor an array of distinct flavor profiles from Black and Brown winemakers.
