Render help to accident victims and desist from taking photos, videos— police urge citizens

THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has appealed to first responders at accident scenes to render assistance to victims instead of taking photos and videos which they later post on social media.

The clarion call by ZRP national spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, followed graphic images, both pictures and videos, of a head-on collision along Harare-Masvingo highway last Thursday that claimed the lives of six members of the Mujuru family of Tynwald North, Harare.

“The ZRP urges Zimbabweans to prioritise rendering assistance to victims of road traffic accidents, such as promptly notifying emergency services and offering first aid where possible, rather than capturing photographs or videos of horrific accident scenes and sharing them on social media,” said Nyathi.

He warned that the law will take its course on anyone found taking photographs or videos of accident scenes.
