Rhode Island authorities are currently investigating a highly disturbing video circulating across social media that shows a person walking down a local street wearing KKK-style clothing.
According to a press release from the West Warwick Police Department, the video depicts an individual dressed in a white robe complete with a pointed hood. The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of Monday, April 27, right around 2:00 a.m.
The individual was seen walking along Main Street in the Arctic section of the town. While the imagery is alarming for the community, police have stated that this appears to be an isolated event.
As of now, the department has not received any additional reports of similar behavior before or after this specific sighting. Authorities have also reassured residents that there is currently no known ongoing threat to public safety.
However, the West Warwick Police Department’s Detective Division is not taking the matter lightly and has officially launched an investigation into the video.
They are now turning to the public for assistance in identifying the individual involved or piecing together more context about the nighttime stroll.
Detectives are specifically asking anyone who lives or works in the area to review their security cameras or ring doorbells for video surveillance footage from that timeframe.
