Roads Authority closes 14 ||Kharas roads due to rain damage

The Roads Authority (RA) has temporarily closed 14 roads in the ||Kharas region following severe damage caused by heavy rainfall and flooding.

The authority announced on Thursday that it is monitoring the affected areas and will undertake necessary assessments and repairs as conditions permit.

“The public is advised to avoid flooded roads, adhere to road closure signage, and stay informed through official RA communication channels to ensure the safety of all road users,” the announcement says.

The roads are in the areas of Keetmanshoop, Aroab, Grünau, Karasburg, Ariamsvlei, Goageb, Bethanie, and Rosh Pinah.

They include district roads DR205 to DR204 from Aroab to Grunau. Motorists are advised to use trunk road 0301 from Ariamsvlei to Grünau, proceed with trunk road 0103, and then take main road 26 north of Ariamsvlei and vice versa.

Main road 25, used by motorists traveling from Karasburg to Aroab, is closed from kilometre 80 to 117. The RA urges road users to use trunk road 0301 from Ariamsvlei to Grünau, then proceed with trunk road 0102, and continue with main road 26 north of Ariamsvlei and vice versa.

In the Bethanie district, road DR463 south of Bethanie is closed. Motorists are urged to use trunk road 0401 from Keetmanshoop to Aus, then proceed with main road 118 towards Rosh Pinah and vice versa.

Motorists are also advised to use main road 118, as the road from Goageb towards the north of Rosh Pinah is closed.

District road 212 is closed between the 90km and 120km marks from trunk road 0101. Road users are advised to use the route crossing the border into South Africa at Swartkops gate.

“Motorists are urged to exercise caution and use the indicated alternative routes when travelling on these roads,” the notice reads.

The RA also announced temporary closure of roads with no alternative routes. These include district road 437 in the Bethanie area from the 7km mark from road MR31, district road 1077 from the 20km mark to trunk road 1/3, and from the 30km mark to DR1089.
