CANADA India Network Society (CINS) will host its 6th global conference in Surrey from June 5-7. The conference, a fusion of modern science, cultural wisdom and technology, is also a midyear joint meeting of Global Association of Physicians of India (www.gapio.in).
The theme of the conference is South Asian Health – A global perspective: Integrative thinking on the synergy of science, culture and technology
Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke will open the three-day thought leadership event. CINS has been a partner with City of Surrey since its founding to build a healthy civil society The keynote speech following the opening ceremonies on June 5 will be delivered by renowned researcher, Dr Sonia Anand of McMaster University on knowledge translation of research in lowering diabetes.
Other speakers include some of the leading experts on integrative thinking: Chinmaya Pandey, H. R. Nagendra and Manjunath Sharma of India, and Dr. Victoria Lee, former president of Fraser Health, and international indigenous humanitarian and educator Chief Phil Lane.
A thought provoking and solutions seeking panel discussion on barriers and opportunities in use of integrative medicine will be featured in the Saturday morning session.
The conference also has eminent clinicians from India sharing successful health programs in a village in Punjab along with kindness in health care, eradication of blindness and insights into integrative health.
A unique feature of the conference is a session cohosted with Surrey Board of Trade titled Art, Artist and Health. The afternoon session on Saturday will have reports from partners and collaborators from previous conferences and results of the projects.
A special session of patient experience to highlight engagement and empowerment cohosted by BC Support Unit of the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR) and Fraser Health will be added feature. The conference closing session will have recommendations which guide future projects for sustainable health care.
The signature banquet on June 6 at Empress Banquet Hall is a celebration of Canada-India collaboration, 50 years’ legacy of South Asian health fund at Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation.
