President of the Court, Justice of Appeal Francis Belle, said the panel will be using the decision to reiterate that sentencing was “not just a mathematical process”.
“I think maybe that we shall write a few lines on the issue as an opportunity to remind persons about what sentencing is all about, how it is done and the fact that it is not just a mathematical process,” he said.
“Those statements have to be restated every now and again to remind everyone how it has to be approached. We can make nonsense of the process if we just continue to look at how to take off a year here, or add a year there.”
