Several feared dead after bus, trailer collision on Kampala–Gulu highway

Several people are feared dead and many others injured following a violent head-on collision between an Opit Travellers bus and a trailer on the Kampala–Gulu highway in Omoro District.

The crash occurred Tuesday night at Kulu Otit village in Bobi sub-county, sending shockwaves through the area and drawing dozens of residents to the scene. The bus was reportedly en route from Kampala to Gulu City when the accident happened.

Preliminary accounts suggest the bus veered into the lane of an oncoming trailer, leading to a devastating impact that left parts of the vehicles mangled and passengers trapped in the wreckage.

Witnesses said locals rushed to the scene moments after the crash, pulling survivors from the twisted metal as cries for help filled the night. The injured were hurriedly transported to nearby health facilities for emergency treatment.

By press time, authorities had not released an official death toll or confirmed the number of those injured, as rescue and recovery efforts continued.

Police said investigations are underway to establish the exact cause of the crash.
