ABYETS Tradeshow Showcases Next Generation of Visionaries

The Holy Trinity School in Codrington was transformed into a hub of ambition and creativity on July 4th, 2026, as over 30 young entrepreneurs—ranging from five to 18 years —gathered for the annual Antigua and Barbuda Young Entrepreneurs Tradeshow (ABYETS).

Following the program’s successful retreat at River Run on June 20th, 2026, this year’s exhibition served as a powerful testament to the slogan: “Big Things by Little People”. The event brought together enterprising youngsters and their supportive parents—all of whom have embraced the vital mission of honing the unique talents and potentially professional skills of the next generation.

On display were young fishers/fishmongers and retail butchers selling fresh catch and deer meat; car-detailers washing and detailing vehicles; a barber giving haircuts; face painters boosting confidences of little ones with their imaginative and artistic designs; cosmetologists, nail and eyelash technicians treating their clients to relaxing and invigorating pedicures and manicures; young retailers selling goods; HVAC technicians demonstrating their tools of the trade; block-layers in full block-laying mode; journalists recording, broadcasting and reporting;  bakers and pastry chefs with unique dainties; fresh fruit and local drink retailers marketing their tasty products; chefs with offerings of stuffed shellfish and lobster thermidor; carnival-food retailers selling roasted corn and cotton candy; artisans with their jewelry exhibits; artists with paintings and a published teen author. It was an absolutely amazing exhibition of not only skills and talents but an exuberant demonstration of networking, partnerships, potential and community support.

Among the rising Barbudan stars is 14-year-old A.J., the driving force behind A J Construction. With his construction tools and gear on exhibit, A.J. guided by his contractor stepfather was on-site mixing mortar and laying blocks around steel framework. It was a sight to behold… this teenager, trowel in hand, buttering blocks.

Currently, he may be working with his hands but his academic interests are noteworthy, highlighting his intent to prepare himself to be a rounded individual.

“My favorite subjects in school are Maths and IT,” A.J. said confidently.

While other youth his age may be totally engrossed in fun and games this summer, A.J.’s focus is unwavering.

“I would like to have a part-time job doing construction over the summer,” he said.

His initiative is proof that professional excellence and a commitment to service have no age limit.  He is supported by his parents, who are steadfast in ensuring the continuation of a proud family legacy in construction.

Dedication by parents underscores the core message of the Community Charitable Ministry (CCM): that fostering a child’s talent at a young age is essential to long-term development.

This budding entrepreneur had sage words of advice for his peers.

“Work hard and believe in yourself.”
