A career-high 18 points from redshirt sophomore Samyha Suffren paced the Virginia Tech women’s basketball team in a 79-42 rout of Southern Methodist University on the road at the weekend. It was the third straight ACC victory for the Hokies.
Inside Moody Coliseum, Virginia Tech sprinted out for eight straight points, leading 16-8 after the first frame. They held a 32-19 edge at the half, and extended their lead to 57-33 at the end of three periods. Suffren scored six of her 18 points in the fourth quarter, as Tech closed on a 15-0 run.
Suffren, a 5-8 guard, stuffed the box score with five rebounds, three steals, and a career-best two blocks. Coming off the bench, she played just 24 minutes, but converted seven of her 15 shots from the field, and all four of her free throw attempts. She was tied for third in rebounding, and tied for the lead in steals. Four players got into double figures for Tech.
The Hokies improve to 14-5 overall and 4-3 in ACC play.
