As anticipation builds for the 2026 Miss Castries South Pageant, contestants are proving that the journey to the crown is about far more than beauty and stage presence.
In a powerful demonstration of leadership and service, contestants recently traded the spotlight for community outreach as part of a development-focused initiative designed to promote sustainability, civic responsibility and positive social impact throughout Castries South.
Held under the theme “Community Development: Our Collective and Individual Efforts,” the programme challenged participants to examine their role in shaping stronger, more resilient communities while gaining firsthand experience in community engagement.
Chairperson of the Castries South Pageant Committee, Tajma Brown, said the initiative reflects the pageant’s broader mission of nurturing young women who are not only ambassadors of beauty but also agents of change.
“The Community Pageant is much more than a competition. It is a platform for leadership, service and personal development,” Brown explained. “We wanted our contestants to understand that true queenship is not only about what happens on stage but also about the impact you make within your community.”
Brown noted that the programme was intentionally designed to expose contestants to real-world community challenges while encouraging them to become active contributors to solutions.
“We believe community development is everyone’s responsibility. Through initiatives like these, our contestants are learning the value of service, sustainability and collective action. We hope this experience inspires them to continue making meaningful contributions long after the pageant is over,” she added.
The day began with an educational presentation titled “Our Individual Contributions to a Sustainable Tomorrow,” which explored how personal responsibility and community involvement contribute to long-term development and sustainability. Participants also examined the development journey of Castries South, current initiatives underway and the importance of citizen participation in driving continued progress.
However, the lessons did not remain in the classroom.
During the afternoon segment, aptly titled “Sustainable Actions in Practice,” contestants took to communities across Castries South to distribute care hampers to families and individuals in need, transforming discussion into direct action.
Organisers said the outreach component was designed to reinforce the day’s message that meaningful change begins with individual efforts that inspire collective progress.
The initiative forms part of the contestants’ wider development programme leading up to the Miss Castries South Pageant, while also fostering a stronger sense of social responsibility and community engagement among participants.
Organisers hope the experience leaves a lasting impression on both the contestants and the residents they served, reinforcing the belief that sustainable development is built not only through policies and programmes, but through everyday acts of compassion, service and leadership.
The Miss Castries South Pageant culminates on June 20, 2026, at the Ciceron Secondary School, beginning at 7:00 p.m., under the theme: “Stronger Together: Many Communities, One Voice.”
