These Are the 20 Best Hotels in Puerto Rico Right Now, From Beachfront Icons to Wellness Retreats and Old San Juan Gems

The blue streets of Old San Juan lead toward centuries-old fortresses and small courtyards filled with music. In Condado, hotel pools seem to hover above the Atlantic, with restaurants, cocktail bars and casinos only steps away. Farther east and west, golf courses run beside rainforest, cliffs and broad stretches of sand.

Puerto Rico’s hotel landscape covers far more territory than most Caribbean destinations. You can plan an urban weekend around restaurants and nightlife, spend a week at a full-service beach resort or disappear into a small retreat on Vieques, Culebra or the island’s quieter northwestern corner.

The luxury offering continues to grow, too. The arrival of a new Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico gives the island another major international name, joining hotels with deep histories and a group of locally owned boutiques reshaping the experience of staying in San Juan.

These are the best hotels in Puerto Rico for 2026 — from hotels you’ve definitely heard of to great-value options in up-and-coming parts of the island.

Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico’s luxury hotel landscape has entered a new era with the Four Seasons Resort and Residences Puerto Rico, the brand’s long-awaited debut on the island that opened last year.

The resort is set on Puerto Rico’s northeastern side, about 30 minutes from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport, with a beachfront setting, private residences and the kind of expansive resort program associated with Four Seasons. The project gives Puerto Rico another high-level luxury address outside metropolitan San Juan while placing you close to the rainforest, Luquillo and the island’s eastern marinas.

The real appeal is the geography. You can pair days beside the water with excursions into El Yunque National Forest, rounds of golf and boat trips toward Vieques and Culebra. The northeastern corner of Puerto Rico has long offered one of the island’s richest mixes of nature and resort life, and the Four Seasons is poised to become its newest flagship.

Puerto Rico Hotels

Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve

This remains Puerto Rico’s luxury standard-bearer, a place where the island’s history of grand Caribbean hospitality meets one of the region’s most complete resort experiences.

The property traces its origins to Laurance Rockefeller’s former retreat, and the heritage remains present in its broad grounds, towering palms and quiet residential character. The accommodations are among the best in Puerto Rico, with generous terraces, outdoor showers and private plunge pools in many categories.

You can spend your stay moving between the beach and Spa Botánico, where treatment rooms are arranged amid gardens and tropical vegetation. The resort also has two golf courses, a collection of restaurants and entry to the wider Dorado Beach club community.

The service is deeply personal, the rooms feel residential and the setting delivers the privacy many travelers come to Dorado to find. Puerto Rico has more luxury hotels than ever, but Dorado Beach remains the island’s benchmark.

condado vanderbilt beach chairs
The beach at the Condado Vanderbilt.

Condado Vanderbilt Hotel

This Condado standout brings historic San Juan glamour to one of the city’s busiest neighborhoods.

The original hotel opened in 1919, and its restored Spanish Revival architecture gives the property a sense of history rarely found in a modern Caribbean urban resort. The Vanderbilt has 317 rooms and suites spread across its historic building and newer towers, with many accommodations looking directly toward the Atlantic.

The infinity pool and waterfront deck create the atmosphere of a private club above the sea. Service extends from the pool to the small beach area, while the hotel’s position on Ashford Avenue puts Condado’s shops, restaurants and nightlife within an easy walk.

Dining is one of the biggest reasons to stay here. 1919 Restaurant remains one of Puerto Rico’s leading fine-dining rooms, while Tacos & TequilaSTK San Juan and the Avo Lounge (one of our favorites) give you several very different evenings under one roof.

One of Puerto Rico’s buzziest hotels, the OLV 55 in Condado.

OLV Fifty Five

It’s hard to think of a place that captures the modern Condado experience as completely as this small hotel beside the Condado Lagoon.

The 26-room property has dramatic interiors, oversized bathrooms and a design language drawn from Mediterranean resorts and contemporary Caribbean architecture. Rooms feel theatrical while remaining comfortable, with stone, brass, dark woods and carefully framed views of the water.

The rooftop is the social center. You can spend the afternoon beside the narrow pool, have dinner overlooking the lagoon and remain for cocktails as Condado fills up below. Chef Mario Pagán’s culinary program gives the hotel genuine restaurant credibility rather than treating dining as a secondary amenity.

The experience is intimate, sensual and distinctly Puerto Rican. It works particularly well for a couples’ trip when you want the energy of San Juan with the privacy and personality of a small hotel. In our view, it’s easily the sexiest hotel in Puerto Rico.

fairmont
The El San Juan resort.

Fairmont El San Juan Hotel

The lobby still carries the spirit of Puerto Rico’s Jet Set years.

Carved wood panels, chandeliers and live music give the central space the feel of an elaborate nightclub, a legacy of the years when performers including Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr. and Nat King Cole appeared here. The atmosphere remains central to the experience.

Beyond the lobby, you’ll find a full beach resort on Isla Verde, with 388 rooms, four pools and one of metropolitan San Juan’s best stretches of sand. You can alternate between the beach, the pool complex and the growing collection of restaurants and bars.

The Caribbean’s first Foxwoods El San Juan Casino adds gaming to an already lively entertainment program. If your Puerto Rico vacation involves music, nightlife and plenty of time on the beach, this remains one of the island’s most complete choices.

the new look hallway at el convento
It’s the signature historic hotel in Puerto Rico.

Hotel El Convento

Few hotels place you deeper inside the history of Old San Juan.

The building began as a Carmelite convent in the 17th century, and much of its original architectural character remains. Arched passageways, tiled floors, thick walls and an open courtyard give every part of the property a connection to the old city.

The 58 rooms tend toward traditional furnishings and warm colors, while the rooftop plunge pool offers views across the tiled roofs and colonial buildings nearby. The central courtyard is home to Patio del Níspero, where you can have breakfast or dinner beneath trees and open balconies.

The location is exceptional. The Cathedral of San Juan Bautista is across the street, while Castillo San Felipe del Morro, Calle del Cristo and the restaurants of Old San Juan are all close enough to explore on foot.

Aire de O:live

The O:live group’s distinctive boutique approach comes directly to Isla Verde Beach at this reimagined beachfront tower.

The redesigned rooms use natural textures, warm woods and a restrained palette inspired by the sand and sea outside. Floor-to-ceiling windows bring the changing blue of Isla Verde into the accommodations.

The rooftop is home to Kumo, a Japanese-inspired restaurant and cocktail destination with broad views over the Atlantic. The roof deck has become one of Isla Verde’s most compelling places for dinner, particularly when you want a hotel restaurant with an identity of its own.

The experience gives you the intimacy and design focus of a boutique property with a location on one of Puerto Rico’s most popular beaches. It is a strong alternative to the much larger resorts lining the rest of Isla Verde.

The Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve in Puerto Rico.

Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico

This sprawling Río Grande resort is built for longer stays, particularly when golf, pools and room space are high priorities.

The property has 579 suites and bungalow-style buildings spread across the grounds. Many accommodations have terraces, while larger villas suit families and groups traveling together.

Golfers can play two Tom Kite-designed courses at the adjacent Grand Reserve Golf Club, home of the PGA Tour’s Puerto Rico Open. A Topgolf Swing Suite at the Sand Trap bar extends the golf experience after the final hole.

The wide selection of restaurants includes sushi, teppanyaki, steak and casual Caribbean fare. Multiple pools, a spa and a broad beachfront complete the resort. You come here when you want several days of golf and resort life in one self-contained destination.

caribe hilton puerto rico
The Caribe Hilton in Puerto Rico.

Caribe Hilton

This historic San Juan hotel remains one of the capital’s most useful family resorts.

The property opened in 1949 as Hilton’s first hotel outside the continental United States. Today, it covers 17 acres between Condado and Old San Juan, with tropical gardens, a large pool complex and a protected beach.

Families have room to spread out, while the restaurants range from casual poolside dining to Morton’s The Steakhouse. The location gives you quick transportation to Old San Juan, Condado and Distrito T-Mobile while still delivering a traditional beach-resort experience.

The hotel is also closely associated with the creation of the piña colada. Whether you accept its version of the cocktail’s history or one of the competing claims elsewhere in San Juan, having one beside the pool feels appropriate.

palacio provincial terrace patio
The Palacio Provincial’s terrace.

Palacio Provincial

A former diplomatic building has become one of Old San Juan’s most attractive modern boutique stays.

The hotel has 43 rooms and suites, many with tall ceilings, arched windows and views over the surrounding streets. Interiors draw from the building’s history while adding contemporary bathrooms and a lighter aesthetic.

The rooftop deck is the property’s defining feature. A small pool, loungers and views across Old San Juan make it an appealing place to cool off after exploring the old city. You can see rooftops, church domes and parts of San Juan Bay from the upper level.

Downstairs, Consular Restaurant and Bar serves breakfast, brunch, cocktails and dinner in a room inspired by the building’s former governmental role. This works well when you want Old San Juan atmosphere with newer rooms and a strong rooftop scene.

Club Seabourne.

Club Seabourne

Culebra remains one of Puerto Rico’s great small-island escapes, and this also the only true place to stay in Culebra.

A small collection of rooms surrounds tropical gardens and a swimming pool. The accommodations are relaxed and informal, with outdoor terraces and a residential feel suited to the island.

A daily breakfast gives you an easy start before heading toward Flamenco Beach, snorkeling at Tamarindo or renting a boat for the day. The staff can also help arrange transportation and island excursions, useful in a destination where logistics require more planning than in San Juan.

The hotel is removed from Culebra’s busier ferry area, giving evenings a quieter rhythm. You stay here to explore the beaches, reefs and small cays around one of Puerto Rico’s most beautiful islands.

the exterior of el blok
El Blok is a work of art.

El Blok, Vieques

A curved concrete façade has become one of the architectural landmarks of Vieques.

Designed by Puerto Rican architect Nataniel Fúster, the building uses perforated walls, geometric openings and rounded forms to filter sunlight and ocean air. The 30 rooms include several layouts, from compact accommodations with balconies to corner rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows.

The location in Esperanza puts you directly across from the Caribbean Sea and close to the town’s bars, restaurants and tour operators. The position makes it easy to arrange a visit to Mosquito Bay, spend the day at Sun Bay or drive to the island’s more remote beaches.

The rooftop is a social gathering place with views over Esperanza and the water. The entire experience is bold, creative and unmistakably tied to Vieques, making it one of Puerto Rico’s most memorable small hotels.

puerto rico flight
The rooftop at the O:live.

O:live Boutique Hotel

The original O:live introduced a new kind of intimate luxury to Condado, and it remains one of San Juan’s most romantic stays.

The 15-room hotel overlooks the Condado Lagoon, with interiors inspired by Mediterranean travel. Stone walls, dark woods, ironwork and carefully chosen antiques give the rooms a layered, residential quality.

Several accommodations include large terraces with outdoor tubs, while the rooftop provides views across the lagoon and Condado skyline. The roof is home to an intimate restaurant and bar, creating an experience reserved largely for hotel residents.

This works best when you want privacy and atmosphere rather than a conventional beach resort. Condado’s restaurants and nightlife are close by, but the hotel maintains the feeling of a private hideaway above the lagoon.

puerto rico curfew
The Condado Ocean Club in San Juan is an adults-only option.

Condado Ocean Club

This adults-only high-rise offers a livelier, more intimate version of San Juan’s beachfront hotel experience.

All 96 rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows, with views facing either the Atlantic or the Condado Lagoon. The interiors use white, blue and natural textures to draw attention toward the water, while the compact size keeps the property more personal than many nearby resorts.

The oceanfront infinity pool is the main gathering place, with loungers, cocktails and food service throughout the day. SOCIAL handles the principal dining program, while Sandbox serves drinks beside the beach.

The position at the western end of Condado puts you close to the Vanderbilt, La Concha and the restaurants along Ashford Avenue. It is a particularly good choice for couples or friends planning a short San Juan trip built around dining, beach time and nightlife.

sheraton
The pool is a great perk.

Sheraton Puerto Rico Resort and Casino

This is the best-positioned hotel for conventions, concerts and events at Distrito T-Mobile.

The property is directly across from the Puerto Rico Convention Center and beside San Juan’s growing entertainment district. You can walk to restaurants, music venues and the Coca-Cola Music Hall while remaining only a short ride from Condado and Old San Juan.

The 503 rooms are modern and business-friendly, while the rooftop pool deck adds a resort element often missing from convention hotels. The elevated pool overlooks San Juan Bay and includes cabanas, a bar and generous outdoor areas.

A casino, lobby bar and sushi spot round out the on-site options. The surrounding district gives the stay more energy than you might expect from a large meetings hotel. It’s a really great value, and somewhere we always enjoy staying.

la concha
La Concha.

La Concha Resort, Puerto Rico, Autograph Collection

One of Condado’s defining hotels has entered a new chapter following an $80 million transformation and its transition into Marriott’s Autograph Collection.

The 483-room property is one of Puerto Rico’s great examples of tropical modernist architecture. Designed by Osvaldo Toro and Miguel Ferrer, the original 1958 hotel is defined by sweeping curves, open spaces and the famous shell-shaped restaurant pavilion.

The hotel has long been one of San Juan’s liveliest places to stay. The lobby bar draws a local crowd, Casino del Mar stays busy well into the evening and several pools extend along the beachfront. An adults-only area at The Loft Beachfront gives you a quieter option away from the main activity.

The best part? Michael White’s newest Caribbean eatery, Levant.

puerto rico sonesta resort
A room at the Royal Sonesta.

The Royal Sonesta San Juan

A broad Isla Verde beachfront and the amenities of a large urban resort come together at this nearly 400-room property.

Many of the rooms and suites have views over the Atlantic or the resort gardens. A lagoon-style pool extends through the center of the grounds, with palms, loungers and pathways leading toward the beach.

The location is another advantage. You are close to the airport, directly on Isla Verde Beach and within easy reach of Condado and Old San Juan. This is a reliable choice when you want a conventional full-service resort with one of metropolitan San Juan’s best beaches outside your room.

Mayaguez Plaza Hotel, BW Signature Collection

Puerto Rico is not just San Juan. And that means we wanted to show places all over the island, not just in the tourism capital. That includes increasingly popular Mayagüez. A stay here gives you a very different Puerto Rico trip, one built around historic streets, western Puerto Rican food and drives toward some of the island’s best-known beaches.

The hotel is set near Plaza Colón, placing you within walking distance of the cathedral, Teatro Yagüez and the restaurants and cafés of the city center. The rooms are straightforward and comfortable, with breakfast included and the practical amenities you need for a short urban stay.

Mayagüez also works well as a base for exploring western Puerto Rico. You can head north toward Rincón and Aguadilla, drive south to the seafood restaurants of Joyuda or continue inland toward coffee country. The appeal here comes from location: you are staying in the center of one of Puerto Rico’s most important cities, with much of the western side of the island within an easy drive.

finca
Finca Victoria.

Finca Victoria

A hillside setting on Vieques is home to one of Puerto Rico’s most original wellness stays.

The boutique retreat has a small collection of rooms and standalone accommodations, each with a different design. Some are bright and minimal; others include vintage furniture, artwork and broad outdoor areas. The famous Invisible House uses mirrored surfaces and large windows to blend into the surrounding vegetation.

Wellness is central to the experience. The retreat offers Ayurvedic treatments, yoga, plant-based meals and personalized programs designed around rest and renewal. The entire culinary program is vegan, with ingredients and flavors rooted in Puerto Rico and the wider Caribbean.

The property feels creative rather than clinical — although the experience is decidedly therapeutic. You can spend part of the day at the retreat and still explore Vieques’ beaches, restaurants and bioluminescent bay. Few Caribbean hotels bring wellness and boutique design together with as much personality.

puerto rico hotels
The Rincon Beach Resort.

Rincon Beach Resort

Yes, we love Rincon, the surfing, boho-cool west coast town that’s one of the region’s best places to catch a wave. At this resort, rooms and suites have private balconies or terraces, with many looking toward the Caribbean Sea. A large free-form pool runs through the heart of the property, complete with a swim-up bar and areas where you can spend much of the day beside the water.

Dining centers on Brasas Restaurant, which serves Puerto Rican and international dishes, while Pelican Beachfront Grill is the casual option for seafood, cocktails and sunset views. Weddings and groups are a significant part of the resort, but the broad grounds leave ample room for a relaxed couples’ or family vacation.

You are well placed for exploring western Puerto Rico, from the surf beaches and restaurants of Rincón to the seafood spots of Joyuda and the bioluminescent waters of La Parguera. It is a strong choice when you want a traditional beachfront resort and a base for discovering the island’s west.
