National Brotherhood of Snowsports
The National Brotherhood of Snowsports (NBS) has been advancing Black representation in winter sports since 1973. Originally formed as a coalition of Black ski clubs, the nonprofit was created to foster participation and build community among Black skiers and snowboarders.
Early members faced significant barriers, including segregation that limited ski lift access, forcing many to hike mountains before skiing down. Today, NBS hosts its annual Summit, one of the largest gatherings of Black winter sports enthusiasts, and supports future athletes through initiatives like its Olympic Scholarship Fund.
Camp Yoshi
Camp Yoshi provides curated outdoor experiences designed to remove the stress of planning camping and adventure trips. Founded in 2020 by Rashad Frazier, his wife Shequeita, and his brother Ron, the Oregon-based company creates accessible outdoor opportunities for people of color.
From day hikes to international trips in destinations like Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Japan, Camp Yoshi manages logistics so participants can focus on enjoying the experience.
Outdoor Afro
Outdoor Afro, founded by Rue Mapp, began as a blog in 2009 and has grown into a national network connecting thousands of Black participants to outdoor experiences.
The organization promotes recreation, education, and conservation through activities like guided hikes and kayaking. Its Making Waves Program also provides swimming scholarships to Black children and caregivers to foster water safety and confidence.
National Association of Black Scuba Divers
The National Association of Black Scuba Divers (NABS), founded in 1991, supports Black participation in scuba diving and ocean exploration.
With more than 2,000 members, the organization offers training, education, and national dive summits to expand access to underwater experiences.
Black Surfers Collective
The Black Surfers Collective works to make surfing more accessible through mentorship, education, and community programming.

Vibe Tribe Adventures, founded by Jessica Newton, expands access to outdoor recreation for underserved communities.
Based in Denver, the organization introduces activities like rock climbing and skiing while encouraging young people to pursue careers in the outdoor industry through programs like Urban Trekkers.
Melanated Campout
Melanated Campout offers an adults-only outdoor experience in Georgia, blending camping with a festival-like atmosphere.
The event fosters community through shared experiences like campfire conversations, games, and group activities.
Full Circle Expeditions
Full Circle Expeditions works to increase representation in mountaineering and high-altitude exploration.
