Saint Lucian fast bowler Sacchin Joshua Cepal has been invited to take part in the Cricket West Indies Fast Bowling Assessment Camp, which is set for June 1 to 11, 2026, at the Coolidge Cricket Ground and High Performance Centre in St John’s, Antigua.
Cepal, a talented right-arm fast bowler, will join other top prospects from the region at the camp. The sessions will be led by Ottis Gibson, who is a Cricket West Indies pace bowling consultant, former Test player, and World Cup-winning coach.
The program is designed to identify, assess, and help develop new fast bowlers within the West Indies system for both red-ball and white-ball cricket.
Local sources say that Cepal was selected after a recent visit to Saint Lucia by Ramesh Subasinghe, the head coach of the West Indies Academy.
Subasinghe visited the island to help coaches at the Saint Lucia Cricket High Performance Centre improve their skills so they can better support athletes. While he was there, he watched live matches, including the PM Cup final, where Cepal was named Most Valuable Player.
In an interview with St Lucia Times, Cepal said he was thrilled about the opportunity. He spoke during the draft for the upcoming Clash of the Leatherbacks tournament, where he will captain the defending champions, Snapping Strikers, in this Babonneau-based event.
He thanked the local cricket community for their support. “I feel really good, you know. Just playing with Babonneau, the players are always backing me. Just being able to go out there and execute my abilities, I just feel really good”.
St. Lucia Times also interviewed Jervaughn Charles, head coach of the Babonneau Cricket Team. Charles has coached Cepal on the Babonneau senior team and has been one of his coaches since primary school. He said that Cepal’s fearlessness is still his greatest strength.
“I believe one of the things that really stands out to me is his fearlessness. I remember Joshua in primary school, and me being a teacher there. I actually bowled to Joshua, and he had this fearless attitude where I remember he dill-scooped me over the school one day in primary school. And it just goes to show that he’s not afraid to take risks and put in the hard yards. And when other persons are afraid to execute their skills, Joshua is always ready to do what he has to do,” Charles said
“I hope this is the catalyst that actually motivates other persons to emulate his work ethic and that fearlessness, and just to go on, and do what they have to do.”
Cepal is the son of Cyrus Cepal, who is the District Education Officer for District One, a cricket administrator, and an umpire, and Dr Samina Cepal, a public health specialist and author.
Joshua’s older brother, Dhan Raj Cepal, was a talented cricket prospect who died in a car accident in 2019.
