The police have recovered at least 35 computers and arrested five suspects in connection with a break-in and theft at Buwambo Seed Secondary School in Wakiso district.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, investigators have made significant progress in probing the case, which was initially registered at Matugga police station.
The break-in occurred on the night of June 18, 2026, when unknown assailants reportedly cut through the school’s perimeter fence, gained access to the premises and broke into the computer laboratory. During the raid, four HP server CPUs valued at Shs 60 million were stolen.
“Following extensive investigations into the suspects’ movements, police impounded motor vehicle UA 771EB, believed to have been used in the crime,” Owoyesigyire said.
He said two suspects were initially arrested, and information obtained during their interrogation led detectives to several locations in Kampala.
On Wednesday, police conducted an operation at E-Tower along Kampala road, where they recovered 15 computer CPUs, nine uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units and 11 HP monitors suspected to have been stolen. Additional computer accessories were also recovered from other premises linked to the investigation.
The theft at Buwambo Seed Secondary School has renewed concerns over break-ins targeting institutions that are expected to have heightened security, including schools and financial institutions.
The incident comes weeks after a break-in at the Bank of Uganda headquarters, during which seven laptop computers were stolen. Crime Intelligence later arrested at least nine Counter Terrorism police officers in connection with that case.
Police said investigations into the Buwambo school break-in are ongoing as detectives continue to interrogate the suspects and pursue other accomplices believed to be at large.
