Capacity Building: Former Footballers Initiative empowered through FAMACO class at Hotel Africana

The Former Footballers’ Initiative (FFI), an entity that brings together the retired football players in Uganda has organized the much-treasured Football Administration and Management Course (FAMACO).

Over 60 ex-players have graced this FAMACO course that started on Monday, 1st June 2026 at BMK House, Hotel Africana in Kampala city.

Patrick Ntege Kaweesa, the national teams’ manager at Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) officially opened this course, hailing the leaders of Former Footballers Initiative (FFI) for organizing this worthy cause.

“I thank the leaders of FFI for organizing this FAMACO course. As former footballers, you need this knowledge. Football always remains teamwork. I urge you to come and engage in football activities at different levels.” Kaweesa hinted.

Vastly experienced Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) education officer Jackson Nyiima is the main facilitator of this course that entails administration, management and financial literacy, among others.

“The life after football life continues for the former footballers. This FAMACO course is knowledge building and building strategies to live better lives going forward in leadership, coaching and executive roles within football circles in football clubs and the federation at large” Nyiima revealed in his opening remarks.

President of the Former Football Initiative Eng. Isaac Mubarak Ngobya highlighted the relevance of former footballers to remain active with influence in society.

“The FAMACO course to former footballers is to help empower them, remain active, influentially and profitably involved in the sport, directly supporting Former Footballers’ Initiative (FFI) mission to build a sustainable and dignified life for players beyond their active playing careers” Eng. Ngobya stated.

Eng. Ngobya applauded the different stakeholders who have contributed significantly towards this FAMACO course as Hotel Africana, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and others.

Former footballers of all generations are attending this course from the late 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and early 2000’s.

FUFA Executive Committee member Deo Mutabazi, Brian “Omutegeke” Ssenyonga (Wakiso District Sports officer) graced the opening day.

The course will climax on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026 with certificate awarding ceremony.

The Former Footballers’ Initiative (FFI) has different key pillars as Sports, health and the elderly, education, business, welfare and Information Technology (IT).
