Sport-S Volleyball Club coach Malic Damulira regards the club’s participation in the 47th CAVB Men’s African Club Championship as a success.
For Damulira, making the trip from Kampala to Kigali for the seven-time national league champions to make their debut at the African championship is a success.
On the court, Sport-S are in for a brutal debut following the draw held on Tuesday night at the BK Arena.
Their path to the knockout stages involves last year’s bronze medalists, Al Ahly of Egypt, a well-loaded Rwandan side in Kepler, Kenya’s Equity Bank, AS Injis of the Ivory Coast and Cameroon Sport Volleyball.
Jonathan Tumukunde, who played at the 2019 tournament with UCU Doves, and Duke Komukama will lead the side on a familiar ground, but mostly unfamiliar opponents.
Reliable middle blocker Daniel Gum looked uncomfortable during practice sessions, and it remains to be seen how much he will offer the team.
