Small poultry farmers are being promised greater stability while consumers could eventually see some relief at the checkout counter as poultry producer Fason’s Foods moves to expand partnerships with smaller producers across the island.
During a press conference yesterday at the company’s processing plant in Lowlands, Christ Church, chief executive officer (CEO) Amir Juman said the initiative by the producers of Amir’s Chicken
was designed to strengthen sustainability within the poultry industry, while creating more
reliable markets for small farmers and helping to stabilise supply for consumers.
He said the company had been seeing growing demand for fresh poultry products from households, restaurants and retailers and believed small farmers needed to benefit from that expansion as well.
“We’ve been thinking of the small farmers in Barbados that when the economy grows, they also have to grow as well too,” Juman said, adding the company had upgraded its poultry processing plant to handle increased production volumes.
