*As “The Breadwinner,” Nate Bargatze (Nate Wilcox) brings to the screen a palatable picture. Nate, a car salesman, is not a picture-perfect parent. However, he strives to be better. Meanwhile, his wife takes off to pursue her professional endeavors. Nate gets no help from his “very insecure,” unlikeable, jealous, stay-at-home dad, neighbor Conor Ashford (Colin Jost).

True to form, Jost is the toxic reality to the family film. He spews racist, untruths on “Saturday Night Live” (SNL). Last week he repeated the lie that there are more blacks on welfare than whites:

Michael B. Jordan won best actor for his role in the vampire movie ‘Sinners.’ A Black vampire is just like a White vampire, except the only thing it sucks dry is the welfare state.”

Jost never mentioned reparations, though. The ladies of the “The View” are known to mention reparations at times, especially Sunny Hostin. Slaves ripped from their “homeland” to build this country were never compensated. Even the Japanese living here, whose country bombed Pearl Harbor, received reparations!

Colin Yost continued his racist rant by spewing more insidious examples of whitewashing history:

“I have a beautiful new ferry ready to give any Black person a free one-way trip back to the motherland.”

What about a one-way ticket back to Europe for those white colonists who came to American bringing disease and destruction, Colin? They took land from Native Americans. Those they didn’t kill, they put on reservations!

Bargatze’s “Breadwinner” brings the family-friendly film to the screen at a good time. The country’s current poisonous and noxious climate begs for relief. Nate is a supportive dad who does not have a problem with a partner more successful than himself. His wife Katie (Mandy Moore) is the ultimate mom.

When Katie’s household invention leads to a once-in-a-lifetime deal on Shark Tank, she needs to go on a prolonged business trip. That means Nate is left to care for their three daughters and figure out how to keep the house from falling apart. With such positive optics, it’s unfortunate that the movie is subjected to the ptomaine presence of Jost.

Directed by Eric Appel, the film also stars Martin Herlihy, Kate Berlant, Kumail Nanjiani, and Will Forte.
