*Gary Owen has built an entire career out of turning his personal life into comedy material, and his latest viral clips prove he hasn’t abandoned the formula.

The comedian recently generated fresh attention with stories about his fraternal twin sons, Royal Blu and Rome Bohdi, whose different appearances (as far as he’s concerned) have become a recurring topic in his stand-up routines and interviews. Owen has joked that one son appears noticeably lighter while the other more strongly reflects his Black heritage, creating what he describes as a surreal parenting experience.

The material, featured in his stand-up special “No Hard Feelings” and discussed in interviews, including on “Club Shay Shay,” quickly found a new online audience after clips resurfaced and began circulating across social media.

Owen Turns Family Life into Stand-Up Material

As only Gary Owen can, the comedian leaned into the visual differences between the twins for laughs.

“When you get a Black girl pregnant, I just assumed my two boys would look mixed. No. One of my boys is white, and one of my boys is black,” Owen joked during one routine.

He continued the bit with increasingly exaggerated descriptions of their appearances, eventually concluding that he essentially ended up with “an all-white and all-Black kid.”

The premise became one of the most discussed moments from the special because it combines two of Owen’s favorite subjects: race and family.

For longtime fans, that combination is nothing new. Much of Owen’s career has centered on stories about interracial relationships, raising biracial children and navigating Black cultural spaces as a white comedian.

Then Came the Personality Comparisons

Owen didn’t stop at appearances.

He also joked that the boys already exhibit completely different personalities despite being toddlers.

According to Owen, one twin eagerly greets delivery drivers and strangers, while the other is far more cautious and observant.

“It’s wild too because they just turned two, but the white one already acts white and the black one already acts black already,” Owen joked. “It’s weird how they know. Babies are smart.”

The comments generated laughs from supporters while drawing criticism from viewers who felt the comedian leaned too heavily on racial stereotypes to make the joke work.

Why Owen’s Comedy Continues to Divide Audiences

The reaction reflects a debate that has followed Owen for much of his career.

Supporters view him as an observational comic who mines his own life experiences for material and uses self-deprecating humor to explore race, family and cultural differences.

Critics argue that many of his jokes return to the same themes repeatedly and often rely on broad stereotypes rather than fresh observations.

That tension helps explain why clips of Owen’s comedy routinely generate strong reactions online.

Lipstick Alley Wasn’t Exactly Impressed

As the clips spread online, commenters on Lipstick Alley had plenty to say—and much of it wasn’t particularly flattering.

One poster dismissed Owen’s reliance on race-based humor altogether, writing, “If he didn’t talk about race he’d have no career. Find some new content you corny yt man.”

Others questioned whether the comedian oversold the visual differences between the twins.

“By how he was talking about I was expecting the ‘black’ twin to look black. No one would be surprised that those boys are brothers,” another commenter wrote.

Not everyone was convinced Owen’s act has evolved much over the years either.

“He’s never been funny. I don’t understand why he still has a career. He’s still rehashing the same jokes he’s been telling pretty much his whole career,” one user posted.

The comments were blunt, but they highlighted a recurring criticism that follows the comedian whenever race becomes the centerpiece of a joke.

Still, the Formula Keeps Working

For every critic questioning Owen’s material, there are plenty of fans who see the reaction as proof that the comedian is doing exactly what comedians are supposed to do: spark conversation and make people laugh.

The renewed attention surrounding the twin-son jokes demonstrates that Owen remains highly effective at turning everyday family experiences into viral moments.

Whether audiences see the material as sharp observational comedy or another example of Owen revisiting familiar territory, the discussion itself has become part of the act. And judging by the reaction online, people are still arguing about Gary Owen long after the punchline lands.
