Ivor Walters Primary Hosts Innovative Boys Empowerment Initiative

ATHLETICS / COMMUNITY — In observance of the International Day of the Boy Child, officially marked on Saturday, May 16, the Ivor Walters Primary School (IWPS) hosted a dynamic and impactful empowerment initiative aimed at uplifting and inspiring its male students.

Under the guidance of Counsellor Shevonne Lowe and her dedicated team, the school organised a unique and engaging session on Friday, May 15, at the Fit Wellness Park. The event brought together teachers, students, and father figures for a series of interactive and motivational activities.

Dubbed “Rise, Reach, Respond: Obstacle Challenge – Empowering Boys to Overcome Life’s Challenges,” the initiative was designed to encourage resilience, teamwork, and personal growth among the boys.

Ms. Lowe explained that, instead of the traditional motivational speaker format, the team opted for a more hands-on and participatory approach this year. The result was a highly engaging experience that saw boys and their fathers and/or father figures competing in a variety of exciting challenges, culminating in a spirited tug-of-war finale.

The event received widespread praise, with participants describing it as a meaningful and rewarding experience. Many have called for the initiative to become an annual fixture on the school’s calendar.

Special thanks were extended to God Almighty, David Walwyn and the Fit Park team, Curtis Morton Sr., Mem’s Pizzeria, Boddies Restaurant, Kenneth Powell, DJ Dendee, the International Day of the Boy Child Committee, the Department of Education for transportation support, and the Principal and staff of IWPS for their contributions to the success of the event.

The initiative stands as a strong example of community collaboration and innovative youth engagement, reinforcing the importance of supporting and empowering young boys to overcome life’s challenges.
