Saint Lucian allrounder Zaida James is set to return to West Indies duty for the upcoming three-match Women’s T20 International Series against Sri Lanka.
She will join fellow Saint Lucian Qiana Joseph, who was part of the One-Day International squad against the same opponents. West Indies lost the ODI series 2-1.
The T20s will be played at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s, Grenada, from February 28 to March 3.
James and Joseph are among 15 players named by Cricket West Indies for the series.
In 26 T20Is, the 21-year-old James has taken 6 wickets and scored 125 runs at an average of 11.36 per innings. She has batted up and down the order, with her greatest success coming last year in five matches playing at number three, where she made 89 runs at an average of 17.80, including a career-high 45 against Scotland.
The squad will be led by Hayley Matthews as the West Indies ramp up preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, set to bowl off in the United Kingdom from June 12 to July 5.
James and Mandy Mangru replace Ashmini Munisar and Shunelle Sawh from the ODI unit. Also in the squad is exciting 17-year-old Barbadian Eboni Brathwaite, a top-order batter who earns her maiden call-up to the senior level, replacing Realeanna Grimmond.
This series, which is expected to provide a good gauge of the regional side’s current form, is expected to be fiercely competitive, with Sri Lanka ranked seventh in ICC Women’s T20 cricket and West Indies just ahead in sixth.
