Jay Bryant pleads guilty in Jam Master Jay murder

Jay Bryant , 52, changed his plea to guilty in the 2002 murder of Run-DMC legend Jam Master Jay.

According to NBC News, Bryant told the judge: “I knew a gun was going to be used to shoot Jason Mizell. I knew that what I was doing was wrong and a crime.”

Bryant had previously pleaded not guilty when he was indicted in 2023.

His co-defendants, Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington, were convicted in 2024 — but the case took another dramatic turn in December 2025, when Judge LaShann DeArcy Hall overturned Jordan’s conviction entirely, ruling prosecutors failed to prove he had a motive to kill the DJ.Federal officials say Bryant’s admission is a long-awaited step toward accountability. “Justice in the murder of Jam Master Jay has been pursued with determination and resolve for more than two decades,” said ATF New York Special Agent in Charge Bryan DiGirolamo. “The defendant’s role in facilitating access for the killers was integral to this crime.”
