THE City of Langley and the Langley Library brought vibrant energy and community spirit to their second annual Sikh Heritage Month celebration, drawing a lively audience that enjoyed the Punjabi folk dance Bhangra, a presentation on Sikh history and culture in Canada, hands-on calligraphy, cultural displays, and refreshments.
The event’s special guest, Manjit Kaur Gill, gave a talk on Vaisakhi. Ramneek Sikh Sekhon highlighted Sikh history in Canada, including the hardships faced in the early days, as well as the community’s achievements and contributions to Canada. A young girl, Pargun Kaur Gill, presented a prayer song. The Punjabi folk dance Bhangra performances by the Shan-E-Punjab Arts Club team was full of energy and the team instructor, Mandeep Singh, invited attendees to learn a few steps of the dance. The Punjabi calligraphy workshop by Sarbjit Kaur Randhawa was also a big attraction, with several children learning the basics of Punjabi writing. There was also a display highlighting the rich history, vibrant culture, and meaningful contributions of the Sikh community in Canada. Attendees enjoyed traditional refreshments.
Langley Library programs expert Donna Gomes was the MC for the program. Library Manager Dr. Sarwan Singh Randhawa thanked everyone for making the event a respunding success.
