New Isuzu D-Max range brings major upgrades

While the Isuzu brand is a household name in Namibia, its latest offering highlights a modern design and greater capability than local buyers are used to.

Known for efficiency, durability and reliability, the bakkie family has received a comprehensive mid-cycle refresh.

Isuzu Motors South Africa’s department executive for product planning, Kevin Fouché, says the 2026 D-Max range adds upgrades that enhance all-round capability, style, comfort and safety.

One of the primary changes is the adoption of the latest-generation 1.9 Ddi engine.

Fouché says this power plant has been further developed for improved throttle response and low-down torque, matched to enhanced efficiency, reduced emissions and better cold-start performance.

The updated D-Max sports a bold, dynamic exterior that improves both aerodynamics and refinement.

The latest model is based on the seventh-generation D-Max, which debuted in 2022 and is manufactured in South Africa.

For improved off-road performance, a new rough terrain mode comes standard on all 4×4 models.

Working in conjunction with the advanced traction control system to provide greater capability, the system can be activated via a button on the gearshift console.

Fouché says Isuzu’s refreshed design philosophy gives the bakkie a more sophisticated, purposeful appearance.

The interior is built around Isuzu’s ‘hexa-pod’ concept, which focuses on making the cabin functional, relaxing and attractive.

On the outside, the front fascia has been thoroughly modernised.

The triangular fog lights and a clever air curtain that channels airflow from the front bumper through the wheel wells contribute significantly to the vehicle’s aerodynamics.

These changes represent a substantial engineering upgrade rather than a mere cosmetic facelift.

Fouché says the expanded lineup now comprises 33 models across single cab, extended cab and double cab body styles, offering a comprehensive selection to customers.

Standard safety features across the range include an advanced braking system, electronic stability control with traction control, hill start assist, electronic brake force distribution, and dual front airbags.

The range-topping V-Cross model boasts luxury and sophistication, powered by a 3.0 Ddi engine.

Available exclusively as an automatic in either 4×2 or 4×4 double cab configurations, it benefits from all the premium specifications.

In addition to standard safety systems, its advanced technology recognises road signs, including speed limits, no overtaking, no entry, yield and stop signs.

For adventure enthusiasts, the Arctic Trucks 35’s elevated flagship variant stands head and shoulders above the rest, coming standard with plenty of attitude.

Meanwhile, the LSE model focuses on luxury in the high-series tier.

Available in extended or double cab body styles, it features the reliable 3.0 Ddi engine in 4×2 or 4×4 guises, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Inside, the cabin features premium digital textures with Isuzu’s new ‘hexa-pod’ and ‘miura-ori’ patterns.

A new nine-inch infotainment touchscreen replaces the previous system, offering improved functionality with two analogue dial controls and one-touch operation for primary functions.

Local dealer Auas Motors expects the new models to arrive in Namibian showrooms soon.

Vehicles come standard with a five-year/90 000km service plan, a five-year/120 000km warranty and a five-year/unlimited distance anti-corrosion warranty.

Service intervals are set at 15 000km or 12 months.
