Nine second-year teacher trainees at the Antigua and Barbuda College of Advanced Studies (ABCAS) have received high honours after recording grade point averages ranging from 3.6 to 4.1.
The students were recognised during the college’s Annual Pledge Signing Ceremony at the Eustace Hill Campus, where second-year trainees formally affirmed their commitment to the teaching profession.
During the ceremony, the trainees recited the Teachers’ Pledge, committing themselves to diligent preparation, effective instruction, civic responsibility and helping students realise their potential.
The event was hosted by the Department of Research, Education and Professional Development under the theme ‘Inclusive by Purpose, Exceptional by Practice, Leaders by Choice’.
Education Minister Daryll Matthew told attendees that teachers are essential to national development and said support for the profession is necessary if Antigua and Barbuda is to achieve its development goals.
Department head Terry-Ann Marsh-Gayle welcomed participants, while Phillip Lloyd delivered the feature address.
Also attending were ABCAS Board of Trustees Chairman Dr Vernon Solomon, college President Dr E. Jonah Greene, Vice President Dr Na-Ajele Williams-Buffonge, faculty members and education officials.
