The One Economy Foundation has warned of tender documents bearing its name circulating on the internet, saying the documents were shared without their knowledge.
In a statement issued on Friday, executive director Pauline Kahupi says the documents were used to solicit and receive payments from third parties under false pretenses, calling it fraud.
“The foundation hereby clarifies that we did not issue a tender, authorise or receive any of the funds allegedly paid by an affected party. We sincerely regret that our name was used to mislead people, and we recognise the harm this may have caused to anyone who may have acted in good faith,” she says.
Kahupi says the organisation has since launched an internal investigation into the matter and suspended a staff member whose name appears on the documents. She says the suspension does not imply any finding of guilt, but to ensure the investigation is unhindered.
She warns that the One Economy Foundation does not issue high value tenders and that any legitimate procurement opportunities would be communicated through its official channels.
Kahupi urges those who feel victimised by the fake tender documents to contact deputy commissioner Given Kaura at the police commercial crime investigation unit on 061 209 3293 or 081 243 6482 to lay criminal charges.
She also urges the public to verify any notice bearing the foundation’s name that does not appear on its official platforms.
Kahupi says the One Economy Foundation is committed to the transparency and accountability expected of it by its staff, donors, partners and the communities it serves.
