A monumental clash is on the horizon as Police Volleyball Club prepares to challenge the 16-time record champions, Al Ahly, in the final of the CAVB Men’s Club Championship.

The highly anticipated fixture is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the magnificent BK Arena in Kigali.

More than just a quest for silverware, the match is being hailed as a showcase for the evolution of African volleyball, sending a powerful message regarding the sport’s rapid growth across the continent.

The final presents a classic David vs Goliath narrative. While Egypt’s Al Ahly is a seasoned powerhouse with 16 titles to their name, Police VC is stepping onto the podium stage for the first time in the club’s history.

Despite their lack of final-round experience, the Rwandan side will lean heavily on the passionate home crowd to bridge the gap in pedigree.

Police enter the final with a perfect record, having won every match leading up to this stage, a feat that proves their presence in the final is no fluke.

However, Al Ahly remains the tournament’s gold standard. The Egyptian giants have yet to drop a single set in the competition, dismantling opponents with a blend of tactical discipline, immense squad depth, and a legendary defensive block.

Speaking ahead of the championship decider, Police head coach Fred Musoni remained composed, acknowledging the magnitude of the task while expressing total belief in his squad.

“We have won every match to qualify for this final. That in itself should send a clear message to our opponents,” Musoni stated.

“We have studied Al Ahly’s games and we have a plan. I am confident that my team will show up when it matters most.”

Musoni also emphasised that the outcome will ultimately rest on the shoulders of those on the court.

“Finals are always more about the players than the coaches. At this level, tactics have a limited impact. It is the character and heart of the players that will decide the game.”

Police’s opposite attacker, Elphas Makuto, echoed his coach’s confidence, citing the electric atmosphere of the BK Arena as a potential game-changer.

“We are fortunate to be playing in front of such incredible supporters,” Makuto said.

“The players are ready to give their absolute best. I call upon the entire nation to back us so that we can win this title together.”

As the benchmark of African volleyball, Al Ahly remains the team to beat, but with momentum and a home crowd behind them, Police VC looks ready to script a historic upset
