SANParks makes arrests after coordinated operations on Table Mountain
SANParks spokesperson, Peter Mbelengwa, says the arrests were made during the long weekend.
South African National Parks (SANParks) says they have made several arrests following coordinated operations to stop crime in the Table Mountain National Park.
SANparks spokesperson, Peter Mbelengwa, says the arrests were made during the long weekend.
He says the arrested people include alleged fynbos poachers.
“The operation focused on suspected abalone poacher camp sweeps. During patrols between Smitswinkel and Black Rocks, K9S successfully tracked suspects, leading to the apprehension of three individuals. A fourth suspect attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by another member of the K9 Unit.”
“In a separate incident at Lion’s Head, SANParks rangers and City Law enforcement intercepted a suspect attempting to flee after stealing items from a parked vehicle. In another incident, a tip-off was received of suspected fynbos poaching on Devil’s Peak. SANParks Operations Room coordinated and located the suspects and directed Rangers to the scene, resulting in a successful apprehension,” says Mbelengwa.
SANParks ranger teams recorded significant successes over the long weekend through coordinated operations across key areas of Table Mountain National Park (TMNP).
