South African professional swimmer Roland Schoeman has announced his engagement to his American partner.
The former Olympian splits his time between SA and the US, where he works as a real estate agent.
Schoeman became a naturalised US citizen in 2022.
ROLAND SCHOEMAN IS ENGAGED!
On his Facebook and Instagram accounts, Roland Schoeman announced that he had proposed to his partner Miriah Schneider- and that she had accepted!
The retired professional swimmer popped the question to his future bride during a trip to the Cayman Islands.
“This year, in one of our favourite places in the world, surrounded by people who have become such an important part of our lives, I asked her to marry me. She said yes.
He added: “I’m grateful for every step that brought us here and even more excited for the journey ahead”
Roland and Miriah – a fashion model and realtor – went public with their romance in 2022. This came a few months after the gold medallist officially became a naturalised US citizen.
Roland has brought his partner to South Africa, where she experienced various tourist attractions.
WHAT IS HE UP TO NOW?
In 2018, Roland Schoeman took a break from professional swimming to pursue other ventures, including getting his real estate licence.
The now 45-year-old calls Phoenix, in the US, home, but often returns to South Africa where his loved ones still live.
In 2023, Roland made a surprise comeback to competitive swimming, becoming the oldest swimmer to compete at the World Championships.
Roland is known for his controversial X posts, where he has been accused of spreading misinformation about “white genocide”, farm murders and “race-based laws”.
He’s also made headlines for the following:
- Testing positive for a banned substance in 2020
- Volunteering to become the next Minister of Sport in 2010
- Being accused of making a racial slur in 2010 after referring to an Indian spectator as a “monkey” at the Commonwealth Games.
