The cancellation of the Lambeth Country Show was a devastating blow to the local community but the good news is that one of the highlights of the event will be returning later this month.
The Hillside Gardens Summer Fete – which takes place on Saturday 27th June – has announced that it will be hosting their own vegetable sculptures competition.

Ignoring the dire AI poster (above), this could be your chance to see if your own artisanal vegetable creation can take on the best the area has to offer.
Competition entries will be in three themes:
- Open entry – “A vegetable portrait”
- Open entry – “Summer 2026”
- Junior Competition (ages 5 to 15) “A vegetable animal”
There is no charge for competition entries for the show, but the Friends would welcome donations to the charity.
Expressions of interest for entering a sculpture need to be submitted by Saturday 20th June. This can be done easily by completing this Google form.
