Tina Knowles Reveals She ‘Got Really Emotional’ Seeing Beyoncé & Blue Ivy at the 2026 Met Gala
The matriarch had déjà vu seeing Blue Ivy on the red carpet.
This year’s Met Gala was a beautiful moment for everyone involved. For Tina Knowles, it was an emotional affair.
Tina Knowles, who is the mom of Grammy award winners Beyoncé and Solange, appeared on the Today show Tuesday (May 5) to talk about her bestselling memoir, Matriarch. Before the book talk began, Knowles spoke about what it was like seeing daughter Beyoncé and granddaughter Blue Ivy Carter walk the Met Gala red carpet then night before.
“I got really emotional, shed a few tears,” Knowles revealed. The matriarch went on to share how seeing 14-year-old Blue Ivy on the carpet reminded her of Beyoncé’s first red carpet appearance, which occurred when the singer was only 15. “Seeing [Blue Ivy] out there looking confident and beautiful brought tears to my eyes.”
In a moment that references one of her daughter’s hit songs, Knowles said the moment was like “déjà vu.”
Beyoncé’s Met Gala appearance on Monday was truly a momentous occasion. This was the celebrated singer’s first time attending the annual event in 10 years — and this time, she was more than a guest. Beyoncé served as a co-chair for the 2026 Met Gala, working alongside Nicole Kidman (who also brought her teenage daughter to the gala), Venus Williams and Anna Wintour.
Beyoncé made the Met Gala a family affair, arriving alongside her husband, Jay Z, and eldest daughter. Notably, Blue Ivy was likely the youngest person in attendance at the Met Gala, as the event has implemented an 18+ rule for its attendees. An exception seems to have been made for children of the co-chairs.
