Update Your Business’s Security With These Key Technologies

The question of how you secure your business is one with an answer that is always evolving. Not only does the technology that can protect you advance over time, but new threats can emerge as well. As such, if you haven’t updated your security in some time, it’s worth looking at the technologies that are out there, such as the following.

Identity Management Technologies

Access control already plays a large role in many businesses. For instance, many businesses require employees to use key cards to gain access to sensitive areas, and most have password-protected accounts for digital systems. However, modern systems are tying this access to unfalsifiable access controls (or as close as you can get to them), with biometrics being a prime example. Multi-factor authentication is not quite as singularly effective as that, but it is still a much bigger improvement on not having it.

Video Management Systems

Surveillance tools, such as CCTV, are a great way of identifying threats and collecting evidence after an incident, but they’re often used passively and reactively, rather than proactively. Video management software is changing that by using video feeds like CCTV as only one part of the equation, combining it with people counters, analytics, alerts, and more to allow security teams to monitor events comprehensively in one dashboard. With remote access and mobile monitoring capabilities, this can allow constant visibility across multiple locations,  which can greatly improve decision-making and response times on the ground.

Artificial Intelligence

As effectively as it has disturbed pretty much all other fields of tech, it’s no surprise that artificial intelligence has a role to play in the evolution of business security as well. Generative AI is able to analyze vast amounts of data, which can be used to identify unusual patterns, predict potential attacks, and even simulate threats for your security team to practice against. As it gets more sophisticated, it’s able to help businesses stay ahead of cybercriminals rather than having to adapt after the damage has already been done. Adaptability is one of the most important qualities of any security setup, and AI can bring that in spades.

Cloud Platforms

Although not necessarily the newest technology on the block, businesses that are relying primarily on local data storage do need to explore the benefits of Cloud platforms. Scalable, flexible, and highly resilient, they can ensure that you have a secure space to keep your data, where you can rest assured that someone can’t simply access it by gaining physical access to it. Cloud-based security solutions tend to update automatically and frequently, making sure that they’re always protected against the latest threats, which many businesses tend to forget with their own systems.

It’s important to assess your needs carefully and identify the gaps that might exist, or where the risk of loss is too high to justify ignoring the solutions that are out there. You don’t need to implement every single piece of new security tech that drops, but you need to make sure that you’re not leaving your business vulnerable.
