Washington cracks down on 600 birth tourism cases staged to ‘illegally’ acquire American passports
a United States embassy in West Africa uncovered a sophisticated birth tourism network of more than 100 foreign nationals using fraudulent documents and visa “fixers” to get themselves visas in order to obtain U.S. citizenship for their children.

There are people who fly to the United States while pregnant simply to give birth there.
Why?
So that their babies could get American passports and citizenship.
Apparently, Washington is not happy with the racket.
This new wave of maternity travelers is being described by Washington as ‘Birth Tourism,’ and it has been outlawed already.
And if that is not enough, the United States is also launching a special crackdown against foreigners who travel to America simply to give birth there.
The US State Department said it is defending the integrity of American citizenship by ending illegal birth tourism schemes.
According to the department, a United States embassy in West Africa uncovered a sophisticated birth tourism network of more than 100 foreign nationals using fraudulent documents and visa “fixers” to get themselves visas in order to obtain U.S. citizenship for their children.
Another United States embassy reportedly identified more than 400 suspected birth tourism cases in Europe since 2024.
Again, one U.S. embassy in North Africa also revoked over 100 visas for “birth tourist” parents who flew to the United States primarily to give birth so their children would acquire American citizenship.
One observer commented that, “… These folks in west Africa openly talk about how they are going to give birth in the United States and they all do it. I was very surprised to see so many teens who spoke ‘Zero’ English but holding American passports. It’s a huge thing in west Africa.”
According to a statement from the department, investigators traced these birth tourism cases to at least six companies, indicating an ongoing syndicate.
“We shut it down, revoked these foreign nationals’ visas, and are coordinating with local authorities to systematically identify and cut off any similar operations,” the statement confirmed.
The United States revoked perpetrators’ visas and permanently banned several fraudsters from traveling to the United States ever again.
“A United States visa is a privilege, not a right,” reads part of the release.
“The State Department is taking action around the world to dismantle birth tourism networks and hold accountable those who try to scam our system,” it maintained.
Under President Donald Trump, the State Department is defending the integrity of U.S. citizenship by ending illegal birth tourism schemes.
No foreigner is permitted to obtain a visitor visa for the primary purpose of acquiring U.S. citizenship for a child by giving birth in the U.S.
