The young open water swimmer has earned selection for South Africa’s team to compete at the 2026 World Junior Championships in Argentina.

Pretoria, South Africa (02 June 2026) – A dream years in the making is becoming a reality for young swimmer Noah Nice, who has earned the opportunity to represent South Africa at the 2026 World Junior Open Water Championships in Argentina.

Noah has been selected to compete in the 5km event after an impressive journey through the South African open water ranks, turning a childhood dream into an international opportunity. He has been in the water since the age of six and has spent years working towards the goal of wearing the green and gold.

That dream moved a step closer earlier this year when he qualified to represent Northern Tigers Swimming at the South African Open Water Championships in Marina Martinique in the Eastern Cape.

Competing as one of the youngest swimmers in his category, Noah faced tough opposition in a combined under-14 and under-15 age group, with only the top performers being considered for national selection. Rising to the challenge, he secured his place in the South African team for the World Junior Championships.

Now, the young swimmer is preparing for the biggest competition of his career when he travels to Argentina in September to compete against some of the world’s top junior open water athletes.

While selection for Team South Africa is a major milestone, the journey comes with significant costs. Noah and his family are working to raise approximately R61,000 to cover international flights, accommodation, team registration fees, competition kit, transport, meals and other essential travel expenses.

Despite the financial challenge, Noah remains grateful for the support he has received from his coach, family, friends and the wider swimming community.
