Aux Lyons Group Turns Fathers Day Celebration Into a Community Lifeline

What began as a Fathers Day celebration in Aux Lyons ended as a powerful demonstration of solidarity, with the Aux Lyons Original Mothers and Fathers Group distributing more than $3,500 in direct financial assistance. The group also supported vulnerable residents and recognized community heroes while injecting thousands of dollars into local businesses.

The initiative follows an equally successful Mother’s Day outreach held in May, reinforcing the group’s growing reputation for turning fellowship into meaningful action.

Speaking to Saint Lucia Daily Post, Mr. Ryan James revealed that the group distributed 18 envelopes containing financial assistance totaling more than $3,500 to individuals and causes across the community. “Last night we had 18 envelopes providing financial assistance totaling to a little over $3,500,” Mr. James said.

Among the beneficiaries was a resident who suffered a stroke and has been unable to work for more than a year. Assistance was also provided to two blind residents, two community members undergoing dialysis several times per week, three sick residents, six elderly fathers who depend heavily on support from their children and a preschool student preparing for graduation next week.

The group also allocated funding to support a community watch party to allow residents access to the National Carnival Queen Pageant scheduled for July 4. This is in support of Miss Republic Bank Shernette Rameau, a contestant from the Aux Lyons area.

Beyond direct financial assistance, nearly $900 was spent on six food hampers and a fruit basket distributed to residents in need.

The organization also used proceeds from its activities to honour five individuals whose dedication to community service has spanned more than four decades.

“These five individuals over 40 years have dedicated their life giving service to the community, especially to families who have sick ones or have lost a loved one,” Mr. James explained. “They would stay throughout the week, the burial, even after the burial, going back to the family and assisting the family.”

In recognition of their contribution, the group presented the honorees with commemorative awards during the celebration.

The economic impact of the event extended beyond charitable giving. Mr. James disclosed that approximately $200 was spent in each of 15 small shops and bars throughout the community, while two major businesses that have consistently supported the group received approximately $700 each in purchases. Additional expenditure went toward food preparation and event logistics, ensuring the celebration generated economic activity throughout Aux Lyons.

With successful Mother’s Day and Father’s Day activities now completed, the Aux Lyons Original Mothers and Fathers Group continues to demonstrate how grassroots community organizations can create lasting impact through service, generosity and collective action.
