Belize among 66 countries attending U.S. Conference on countering Far-Left terrorism

By Zoila Palma:  The United States on Thursday hosted an international conference on what it described as the growing threat of “far-left terrorism,” bringing together representatives from 66 countries, including Belize.

 The meeting, led by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, sought to strengthen international cooperation against what the U.S. State Department called a resurgent transnational security threat, Time reports.

In his opening remarks, Rubio said countries must work together to confront political violence that crosses national borders. He argued that left-wing extremism has not received the same level of attention as other forms of terrorism and called for rebuilding international counterterrorism efforts to address the issue.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent also addressed the conference, describing far-left extremism as a growing challenge to democratic institutions.

The Trump administration said the conference marked the launch of a global initiative to combat radical left-wing terrorism, stating that it would be treated with the same level of urgency as jihadist terrorism.

Officials from countries across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Oceania participated in the discussions, including delegates from Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Belize.
